Adult Individuals Therapy and Counselling
Adult individuals of all ages seek out a counselor or therapist for many reasons: life transitions, difficult relationships, or a desire to change patterns or to learn new ways of communicating.
Why should I go to counseling or therapy?
Life is complicated and problems occur daily, causing us to question what direction to turn, how to solve complex issues or how to express ourselves. When you feel overwhelmed it can be helpful to talk to a therapist.
Therapy can bring a new perspective to difficulties that you are experiencing. You may uncover an improved way of looking and dealing with a circumstance or decide on an alternative course of action.
My clients often discover that, when they take the time to reflect on their lives, everything they think, feel and do makes sense. They experience a sense of empowerment, liberation and pride because they come to know and embrace who they truly are.
As a therapist, I help many individuals with issues such as relationships, grief or loss, self esteem, self acceptance, anxiety, depression and childhood trauma.
Do you:
Feel unfulfilled in life or question some of the choices you’ve made?
Have feelings of intolerable grief due to the loss of a loved one or miscarriage?
Struggle with feelings of anger, depression, anxiety or loneliness?
Have problems with your relationships? Trouble with colleagues at work?
Suffer with unresolved past trauma?
Find yourself at a crossroad and don’t know what direction to turn?
I support my clients through a self-discovery process – a therapeutic process where they can explore their feelings, insights and reactions to life circumstances.
How long will counseling take?
Together we can determine the length of therapy that’s right for you. Generally, you will sense when therapy has been successfully completed. You will know because you’ll feel a renewed sense of self that may have been absent before. You may also notice that you feel more settled overall, and go through the days with a sense of clarity that you never had.
When will I feel better?
Every person is different and at a different place in their life and level of readiness for change, growth and challenge. Therapy can be a long, challenging process. You may find that you feel worse before you feel better, as you work through old wounds or difficult feelings or aspects of yourself or your life that you’d rather just forget or ignore. Most people begin to feel better after they begin to process things differently, or to frame their situation in an alternate light, but the length of time this takes is different for everyone.
Should I come alone or with my partner?
For individual therapy, you should come alone. There may be circumstances where we agree that, for a session or two, it would be helpful for your partner to join us, but this would usually be for a limited time.
